As the youngest member of the Crush & Lovely team and a recent design school graduate, it’s sometimes hard not to feel like a gangly newborn giraffe, fumbling around on legs I’m not yet sure how to use. I’m far from home—home being Texas—but despite feeling slightly…

I believe life is a journey of learning and expanding. I’m passionate about design and technology. Ever since a young age I have studied and created visual designs to engage the viewer. I have over 10 years of experience working with businesses to develop mature identities and marketing materials for their products and services.
Personally, I enjoy my work and create graphics, video and music for fun when I find time, as well as take photographs. Reading about world events, science, technology and all forms of design (I have a soft spot for architecture) inspire me and my work. It amazes me how far the Web has developed and new tools allow ever-increasing ease to express ideas. We live in exciting times.

Pretty in Pink
So I’ve been trying to think of what party I haven’t made a post for yet and it came to me finally… a ladies night!! So of course the theme is Pretty in Pink! I found some really great cute ideas from invites to champagne glasses. Normally I’m not a crazy sparkle person but I saw the idea of using glue and glitter to decorate individual champagne bottles and fell in love! Because whether they are your party favors that you give with the cute little goody bags in the picture next to them or if they are what everyone drinks for the evening they are just to cute to pass up! For the table, I think the brown paper is awesome and take a couple white crayons and write on it to decorate and do some flowers, real or paper for the centerpiece and you are set for a great evening! I just think this ladies night idea is fun and adorable and all your friends will want to come back for another one!!

I don’t know about you, but I for sure am getting summer fever! And what’s better than an awesome outdoor picnic on a beautiful summer day! This type of party is so simple; you can never go wrong with plaid, lawn games, and lemonade. Outdoor events are a great excuse to take the grill out and hone in on your grill master abilities. And for drinks I found the image on the bottom in the center where you make lemonade and pour it into individual mason jars over ice for your guests to enjoy. For decorating, keep it simple, a picnic is not for over embellishment its all about having fun, eating well, and in good company.

Sometimes pulling themes from nature can help you come up with the best color themes and great references. This beautiful Peacock theme is great for dinner parties, birthdays, weddings, or you name it! Feathers can be used as the accents in flower arrangements or table decorations. Or if you don’t necessarily like the idea of being peacock themed, you instead can just use the beautiful rich color palette. In this picture I showed a candy bar, which I think is a must for any party, as well as cupcakes. By having both from what I’ve found is you can get away with buying less cake/cupcakes because the candy is cheaper and keeps people occupied. For the table I think the image on the lower left is really elegant and honestly super simple. Buy some nice paper and a round hole punch and you have the base and then add some vases and candelabras and some beautiful flowers like the image on the lower right and your set.

It’s a little ways away but Saturday May 4, 2013 is the 139th Kentucky Derby! I personally love the Kentucky Derby because it’s a great reason to wear a fancy dress, or a nice suit, and get together with friends, play horse betting games, and make great food and even better drinks. One drink in particular is a Derby Tradition, which of course is the mint julep, which is a very delicious bourbon drink that is easy to make and is perfect to serve to your guests. And with drinks it is of course important to also serve food, but for such a fancy party I think an assortments of appetizers is the right thing to serve to keep from needing places to sit if you are short on space around the TV to watch the big race. For your table vases will do but if you have old trophies lying around or can find some at a garage sale they are perfect to hold flowers for the food table or your dining room table. The Kentucky Derby is one of my favorite events to watch during the year and always turns out fun to make a party out of it!

I personally hate being surprised but I think if the party was this fun and happy and well decorated I would quickly be ok with it! This is a completely DIY kind of party that could be set up in a backyard or even a restaurant. The color palette can be whatever you like, but I think the combo of pastels is easy to find and very bright and happy. I know I have a lot of food on here but I loved both the cake and the cupcakes and then just love the idea of a cereal bar since it can be so hard to cater to kids but what kid wouldn’t love all there favorite cereal! And as for decorations, simple flower arrangements of your choice and balloons filled with confetti as well as taking long strips of colored fabric and fraying the ends to make a colorful fringed garland to add color to the fronts of tables for possibly a buffet. The possibilities are endless for this adorable party and it could take on a lot of personal flare.
